How about some hmmm stories.
1. In mid 80s a used corvette parts guy buys some corvette wheels from Mr y that he thought were 84. Measure wheels 4 times 15' hmmm, gets a phone call several weeks later from Mr x who asks if he knows Mr y and has he bought anything from him in last months. Yes some strange wheels. Well I got your name from local police who said you might know Mr y, seems he had stolen a corvette from garage of Mr x and he wanted to buy anything sold by Mr y as the car was an 83! Car had been stripped and sold off as Mr x had no idea what year the car was. Frame/body found in local water hole so Mr x (who was a retired GM Mgmt type) was despirately trying to get all the parts back. Aparently one of the things that delayed the release of the car was overheating and he was part of a team that had solved the problems and was allowed to keep/purchase a car as a thanks.
2. Friend is on trail of two 83s that have so far not surfaced. The information has been validated just not seen cars yet.

Sometimes these cars do escape.
1966 Coupe
1968 Covert
->1988 ZR1 prototype #EX5014<-
1990 ZR1
Somewhere I read that 47 were actually built and,if sold, would have been 83's. As the story goes the cars were destroyed either in testing or crushed.
That is NOT a showroom brochure, unless you consider national geographic a showroom. I have that exact pullout, my father found it for me in some old Nat. Geographics he picked up from the used magazine bin at the library. It is a cool ad, but no showroom brochure.

Re: 1983 Corvette stuff?!?! (Tyler Townsley)
:eek: :eek: :eek:
Can you imagine if a couple of authentic 83's were to turn up??? Considering theres only 1 known '83 in existence they would Im sure be the rarest vettes on the planet. :blueangel:
The book store at the National Corvette Museum is selling some 83 Vette Brochures that were never released. They did start building Vettes in 83 but is was so late in the year due to production problems that GM decided to release them as 84's. The production run on the 84's was much more than 12 months.
on eBay, i once saw an '83 corvette ashtray that was some sort of promo item for goodyear featuring gatorbacks - went for $17 (i think). dont think it was bogus, cause there was a very detailed photo of the thing.
