My 95 C4 has both a casette player and a CD player installed. Both show up on the window sticker along with the Bose digital radio system. I know this was around the time when cassettes were on the way out and CDs were coming into being. What years were these two options offered together? Was it a common set of options?
Hi @vetguy75 . The Bose Gold with CD and cassette became an option in 1990. Prior to that, cassette only on C4s. The combo CD and cassette was offered through the end of the C4 run in 1996. Cassette only was an option with Bose Gold, and the standard Delco radio was cassette only. The C5 in '97 still offered cassette. The combo option was an in-dash cassette with a CD changer in the trunk.
I don't have the stats on how many C4s had the combo, but I'd say a majority did have the CD/cassette combo. It seems to be somewhat uncommon to find a standard Delco or a cassette only Bose Gold from '90-'96.
I have a 95 with the 6spd manual transmission that has the base Delco stereo with no cassette player. The 95 also has manual heating controls. My father in law's 93 also has the same setup, base stereo with manual heating controls, but his 93 has an automatic transmission.
My 84 4+3 has the Bose system with cassette player. It also has a base suspension. Not a high optioned car by any means.
My 93 6spd has the Bose Gold with cd and cassette. It also has the electronic heating controls, sport seats, and originally had a blue tinted roof. It does not have FX3. It was a pretty heavily optioned car at the time.
This base stereo and heating controls combination seems to be fairly uncommon. It simplifies the system if anything. I think its neat how you could order so many different combinations of equipment with these cars when they were new.

My 96 originally came with the Bose Gold Cassette/CD option but unfortunately someone replaced it with a horrible looking, ill fitting, poorly operating cheap Kunfine. I thinking about putting an original back in but I m dreading looking at the wiring butchering that probably has occurred. Ive been casually looking for a replacement and am surprised at how many NON CD radios are available on Ebay and from salvage yards. I think most Corvettes where ordered with the CD option by 95/96 but Im not sure why so many NON CD units are being recycled.
You have the sticker? That’s cool. Was the combo unit part of a certain preferred equipment package? I forget the coding, but my very lightly optioned ‘93 (cloth seats!) has the Delco/Bose with cassette only as part of the 2nd cheapest preferred equipment package, if I’m not mistaken. Always assumed the combo unit was in the next package up, or a specific ad hoc option.
my old 94 had a cassette only radio. and manual heater controls. I put in a rebuilt CD/Cassette radio in my car and it worked well until the Cd player quite working. stopped listening CDs a long time ago and put the old cassette radio back in. still have the bose cd/cassette radio

My 96's original owner was a cheapskate - the only option in my car is a power driver's seat. So I have - had - the cassette only, non-Bose radio. I liked it at first for its nostalgic charm but I ended up driving my car so much that I decided to upgrade to a double din radio with Android Auto. My car is almost modern now!
My car also has the manual climate control - I think that was tied to the stereo. So manual climate came with non-Bose cassette, automatic climate control came with the Bose systems. I think.

My 95 is the optioned the same way. The car has two options; a power driver's seat and a second key fob. Of course both fobs are long gone. My cas has the base stereo and manual heating controls as well. The car still wasn't cheap in 95, even for having almost no extras. I have thought about this in two ways. The first is that the dealer just got the car in and no one ordered the car like that. Someone found it and liked that it didn't have a lot of extras and liked the weight savings of the lesser equipment. Or someone ordered it that way in purpose, either for weight savings or to save money. Either way, they babied the car and in 2013, with only 21k miles, the car was caught in a flood in the owner's garage.
After looking at it again this morning, it does have a casette. For some reason I was thinking it did not have a casette and was only a stereo. My mistake.
