93 key fobs

the c4’s keyfob system isnt a very good one.
i worry if you get a fob, that you would not use it due to the poor design
what makes it poor?
It passive entry nature is terrible
if you live in a house with a garage it will lock and unlock constantly, tooting the horn each time as the fob gets in range and out of range
Or imagine a scenario where youve parked it at a restaurant, go inside, it locks - horn toots. Your valuables are safe right? Wrong. You get seated near the car and the car unlocks the doors bc it thinks you are getting into it
it would be nice if someone could rig this fob to make it work like fobs of the LATE 90s, 00s worked.
where they only worked if you hit the lock or door unlock button

it only will unlock the drivers door in a passive keyless entry mode
if i remember right - in manual mode (PKE turned off), pressing the door button would cause the PASSenger door to unlock
or something odd of the sort.
There was supposed to be a way to make both doors unlock, but that only seems to work for passive keyless entry mode.
Again. i remember there is no way to simply press the button and have the drivers door unlock (unless it was in a passive keyless entry mode - which i gave some reasons above that i dislike)
but many here seem satisfied with the PKE mode, and thats why the positive comments. I have reasons why I want that car locked and dont want it to become unlocked in a restaurant (or shopping) style scenario i described
Im hoping the OP doesnt shell out several hundred dollars for a fob only to be disappointed it doesnt work the way they expect it to

The system is a little... odd. It has zero intelligence
For example if the door is open and you walk out of range it will lock and vice versa. If I walk by the drivers door and around the front of the car to the passengers door it will lock and unlock. It is a simple fob is in range->unlock ; fob is out of range ->lock.
As another mentioned, you cannot use the fob as a remote keyless entry, it is designed as passive keyless entry. It is nice for the rear hatch, though you have to be within the 6' range for that to work as well.
It is easy to enable and disable so often when I'm working on the car I'll disable it first so it's not incessantly locking & unlocking.
But it's kind of a fun novelty, as the 93 Corvette was the first car to feature PKE, which is now nearly universal.
But the way I see it, no matter how you slice it, it beats having to get your freakin key out and lock or unlock the door every time you’re gettin in or out of it (especially when you’re used to keyless entry on all you’re other vehicles)……
