Default Starting issues

Im having a completely new problem with starting my 1985 c4.

previous times the scty or whatever the fuse is for security would pop and id have to replace it to get the car to start or other times just having a loose battery connection.

but the past day or 2 neither of those have been the issue. Me and my dad have tried diagnosing for different sounds. Im younger and am not as good with electric workings of the car but he says when cranking the car he doesnt here any clicks or even any “response” and as far as what i diagnose i cant hear the fuel pump prime/ engage.

my dad is also leery of the fact the security light is on while the doors are open. I believe that isnt an issue with why it wont start but that is something he is suspicious with

plez help

Is your car an auto or a 4+3?

Regardless, the security light being on while the doors are open is normal. At least, that’s how it is for my 84. If your car is a manual, there’s a chance your neutral safety switch is malfunctioning. That’s what plagued my car. If you have an FSM handy, you can go down the circuit and diagnose each fuse and sensor to see if they’re operational.

Have you checked the fuel pump fuse? Fuse #24 in the lower right corner.

Here is a link to an older thead re: fuel pump fuse.

A bad fp fuse will cause the starter not to engage?

I'd try to jump it to start. Fuel pump sound has nothing to do with a cranking engine

Sorry I saw the word "cranking" and assumed that meant the starter was working.

id try jumping it as already suggested or at least ensure the battery is good. Then Id check the battery cable connections for tightness and corrosion at the battery and at the starter. Also check the electrical grounds. If everything checks out you can try "jumping" the starter by touching a screw driver between the battery terminal and the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid, If the stater engages then the problem may be in the ignition switch.

You have a 40 year old car. There could be a multitude of issues.
