What's the best / least-likely-to-not-fit brand for outer window seals? I'm going to 3rd times the charm it before I take it somewhere... either through user error or poor fitment, this will be my third try to get it to fit. I understand that the plastic prong variety is OEM and likely very rare. If I can find a place selling them, cost would be (nearly) no object. Otherwise, is there a known maker of reproductions with a good track record? The two I've tried were from eBay and Zip, if I recall correctly. And it may have been total user error, in fairness.
Thanks. On the plus side - between this and replacing the window glass - I can have the interior door cards off in two minutes flat!
Are you talking about the rubber window sweeps on the outside of the door windows? If so I ordered the Zip Corvette Reproduction kit of inner and outers for my 93. I did them this winter with no issues.
I did not rivet the new ones in like the originals. I just pushed the metal barbed tabs down in the slots for the outers. I used a T handled allen tool I had with the plastic tee handle on the weather strip over each clip and tapped them into place with a rubber mallet in case I slipped. Once I seated them all in working from one end to the other it came out great and they haven't slipped out or given me any issues. They look good from the outside as well.
The videos I've seen were of someone using a tool of that shape to seat the clips in. I didn't have anything like that around, so it's probably worth just getting one if I keep seeing it. The other trick I've just recently seen is to line up all the clips to start, and push them all in at once instead of going down the line.
And that's good to hear about rivets, because I need to drill them out now for the second time and I'd rather not deal with them again. Adding an extra rivet + hole didnt help, either.
