In the technical section I have a thread about my adventures in head gasket replacement and how it failed. Out of frustration I used a bottle of Bars Head Gasket Repair. The problem, it appears to have worked! But now what to do? I don’t trust the car anymore and I already bought a 2003 C5 (Love it!). If my ‘96 had a trustworthy engine it would probably be worth around $10k, but I can’t in good conscience sell it to someone without disclosing the whole story. So I have no idea what my really nice ‘96 is worth with an engine held together with stop leak.
Bought it 3 years ago for $12k, had 65k miles.
In those 3 years I have:
Replaced all the weather stripping
Rebuilt LCD screen
Replaced hoses, belts, fluids
4 Michelin tires
Kenwood radio
Dewitts standard radiator
Vette2Vette chassis bars
PowerStop brakes, rotors and hoses
Petris opti and water pump
Fuel pump assembly
Shocks
Those are the highlights and a few other odds and ends.
I put 15k miles on the car and had it sorted out just the way I wanted, then poof! Only 80k miles and it didn’t ever overheat on me and I didn’t beat on it. Primarily just a weekend cruiser with the wife.
