On mine I measured the o ring and bought a package of that size from Grainger for about $5. That was almost 10 years ago and it never leaked again.

Was the piston very difficult to install after the o-ring seal (I assume rubber???) was installed?

(I had to hit the piston with a hammer to force the [piston into the bore...There could be the possibility that the o-ring seal was a bit too large on my case.

Fix it if you want, whatever floats your boat as they say, but I hope you can fix it rather than have it suddenly fail when you're picking up your car, or have it get stuck and you can't get the car down. Just curious - How long are you going to fuss with this one, getting parts, etc., until you start looking for a replacement?

Fix it if you want,
I "want" thank you...

whatever floats your boat as they say,
the boat "floats" very well so, you can tell "they"...

but I hope you can fix it rather than have it suddenly fail when you're picking up your car
I hope I can fix it also.......not worried at all about the jack failing, I ALWAYS have multiple back-ups in place if jack is/was new or used..

or have it get stuck and you can't get the car down.
as stated, I have multiple back up plans in place....

Just curious - How long are you going to fuss with this one, getting parts, etc., until you start looking for a replacement?
no need to be curious, as your statements reek of the smell of your position...

Maybe pull it apart again and inspect the seal.

As a generalization, if you have to hammer something, other than an educated tap, there's a problem.

I plan on doing that...

I have viewed vids on u tube where the seal was forced in.....
Don't get me wrong here, I did not hit the "piston" like one would hit something to make a bell ring at a carnival...

When I did mine, I put the seal in the bore backwards for a weekend. It helped it conform to the shape it needed to be in easier installation. Yours might be different as mine had a thick leather seal that I had to soak in oil just to make it easier to work with.

I'm not trying to call you out, and I can relate to how you feel about dismissive responses, but your style can seem abrasive.

Just an observation. Make of it what you will.

I've installed thousands of O-rings and lip seals in my career. If you're using that kind of force, something's probably wrong.

Make of that what you will as well.

I'm not trying to call you out,
yeah, seems so......

and I can relate to how you feel about dismissive responses, but your style can seem abrasive.
It's not that in totality...I ask a question and get responses that tell me to buy a new one and still, my question has not been answered yet (in effect)...
My question(s) seem to trigger a run-a-way thread making me try to get it on track...
I appreciate the assistance believe it or not but, it turns out to be a run-a-way train and does NOTHING for this thread...

...just that......

I've installed thousands of O-rings and lip seals in my career.
as I...

If you're using that kind of force, something's probably wrong.
what kind of force?...Read what I wrote and about the utube vids I watched...

Make of that what you will as well.
of course I will...OH, and the seal is RUBBER and not to be soaked as mentioned...
Soaking it will do nothing although, I did, of course. lubed it.

###########################

a round rubber (360* round) seal has no "backwards" (grin)....If I put in a larger o-ring seal, the o-ring seal will be pushed in, then, I would have to fish it out....
Too small - well, it would not stay in the groove and that's no good either...
