Default NOS opti

Hi All, I've been absent for awhile and getting back to normal after some health issues. It might be a some time before I get my project going on my '96 rebuild.
My thoughts are I have 2 optis, my OEM rebuilt by the opti doctor and a NOS that I found for sale. I was going to keep the NOS as back up, but with some medical bills I'm thinking of selling it.
The optidoctor verified that it is a NOS opti and if I recall it is valuable....I always saw it as the "holy grail" of C4 parts .
What do you think it worth? I'm thinking of listing in the FS section here or Ebay, but I'd rather sell it to a C4 forum member
Thanks, Tom

IMO, you should stick to your original plan and keep it as a spare. It would also be an attractive motivation to any potential buyers if you choose to sell the car at any time. While I have absolutely no knowledge (or care to know) about your medical bills, you have to ask yourself if selling it would really make any difference. Even if you were to get ~1000.00 for it, is that going to solve your problem? With all the replacement optis available, I actually can't imagine anyone paying that much for one anyways even if it is NOS.

Personally, I don't think it's worth as much as you likely do.

Optis seem to have gotten better over the years, I don't think part store Optis are bad anymore. There's also a not small handful of vendors selling their own who seem to be good, and of course rebuilt ones.

You didn't say what year it's for, but it will only be useful for one style LT1, so that limits market.

Later LT1s can get torqhead converted and forget all about the opti.

Your NOS opti is of unknown condition. New old stock doesn't mean guaranteed to work. If someone puts it in and it doesn't work, it's not like it's under warranty.

The biggest thing is I'm reality, the C4 isn't big with big koney collectors right now. So there's not a lot of people who are going to be throwing money at stuff. Arguably C4 owners are the cheapest group right now, lol.

So that's my take. I think a buyer for more than $250-300 is probably pretty hard to find. I could be wrong. But a petris is $500 and comes with a warranty and a guarantee and is arguably a better design than OEM. So you're looking at selling for under that IMO, and the risk of yours not working I think pushes it well under that.

Thanks for the feedback. If the opti it for my '96, what are the other years it would work for? '92 - '96?

I believe the best way to gain any reasonable feedback is post the GM part # of it. Is it in a GM part #'d box or just loose. Snapshots would help? Do you have NOS vacuum harnesses to match?

If you sell, posting a pic of the date code and part number will help validate it as a OEM. It still doesn't proof that the internals are untouched original, but at least the base is OEM manufacture. Close up pics of the mounting ears showing it as having never been installed would also help as "NOS". (To some people NOS means an original part, previously installed and used.)

A 96 Opti is the later, vented, pin-drive. These are more reliable than the 92-93 spline drive version, so may not be as sought-after as a spare.

Spline-drive Opti. Date Code = 1992, March 05. This came off my 1992 built in Sept, 1991. The opti was replaced 2 months after the owner took delivery. I replaced it 31 years later.
