Default 84 corvette build questions

1984 corvette with the 4+3 manual
For context lets list goals and progress and
Goals for build:
Have a fun streetable car.
Keep TBI fuel system.
Work with OG ECM.
Keep within a good budget.
Overall improve performance to a mild level.

Progress:
Have long tube headers with straight pipe exhaust.
Currently porting stock intake for max flow.
Newer fuel pump not stock 84 pump.

So one of the obvious issues with an L83 is flow, which is why im doing headers and intake work. So with that in mind it makes sense that I should get better flowing heads. And I have no clue which ones to get. I hear alot of casting numbers get thrown around but it just doesn't click for me. And I really wanna make sure I get the right heads for this mild build.
Another one is a cam. Now I understand I cant just throw a just chunky cam in the build and expect it to make power or even run for that matter.
I just want a cam that could take advantage of the improved air flow after all the other mods.
I know the ECM, and intake manifold really limits what's possible but im willing to work around those limitations.
Overall want I want from the cam is just a little bump in power and be able to idle somewhat good. But of course a little chop at idle would be cool aswell but I'll be realistic

If I was going to do it, I'd start with a Vortec long block 350 and adapt a conventional intake and 2bbl truck tbi unit. The wiring will hook up to the new tbi (87-89 350 truck). Retaining the egr would be the challenge when using a vortec engine.

Definitely not a bad idea but I wanna try to stick with the OG motor if possible. Plus im not really in the position to motor swap
