Weatherstripping

Missing the retaining stuff in the corner on both sides and it refuses to stay in place, should I heatgun it and close hatch on it, or glue it in place?

You could or you could just buy a new one. After all these years they shrink and just become a hassle. Worth just putting a new one on there. Not too expensive either. Easy to replace. You can probably get one for less that $200

Was looking at the Corvette Rubber website because the rear hatch rubber is the next I plan to do. It says something about they have reconfigured these corners to eliminate the common problem.

Hi, I cannot see the "U" shaped channel that should be bonded to the weatherstrip?. Is it missing?, see the images below of how it should look. That U shaped channel pushes over the fibreglass seam to hold the weatherstrip in place. You may need to use weatherstrip adhesive to attach the U channel to weatherstrip, it is also meant to waterproof the car prevent water entering the cabin. Where the water pools at the corners, some put drains in the area the water won't drain out...
