I'm gonna take a stab at it. Yes, it will recalibrate itself. As I understand the 88's, at KeyOn, the door motor goes all the way in one direction til it stops, then all the way in the other direction. It uses those to determine % open/closed for the blend door.

Depending on if you have electronic AC (RPO C68) you have blend door actuators, if you have manual AC you don't since it's vacuum operated.
