Its the little things....
...that can make the vette look and feel like a nillion $$$. I just put on metallic silver hash marks ($30 ecklers), replaced the shifter **** that was missing the leather covering ($45 TLD) and replaced the ripped shifter boot ($34 TLD). So for the price of a good meal (well maybe a couple of good meals) my vette, at least to me anyway, looks sooooo much better and just feels better too (Well, the new Kumhos I put on a couple weeks ago helped the "feel better" part a lot too).
What are some of the small things like this you have done that seem to make a HUGE improvement?

Replaced my antenna that stayed up about an inch when shut off. I say thank you to crheinish here on the forum for a great transaction on the mast every time I look at the antenna when I get out of the car (can't get over the habit of checking on it). :seeya
I put Chrome GS emblems and satin A-molds on. When purchased it had chrome sawblades and it didn't look right on my color car. It made a world of difference.

Yeah, I forgot that I had put on new front and rear emblems...made all the difference in the world on the way it looked...well, it did to me anyway :yesnod:
Replaced the broken, cracked, worn-out, all-around unuseable, plexiglass door sill protectors. Man, those things were so beat to crap and got worse after I got them. Combination of daily driving and people constantly knocking them off of the sill, and sometimes stepping on them after they fell on the ground when they put their foot down getting out. Now they're black ABS plastic and I have no problems at all. :D

Re: Its the little things.... (DarkHalo)
hehe.. and those 'little' things seem to cost a million bucks too! I'm just frustrated at how many of these replacement parts have such inferior quality for such a steep price.
But I'm always doing something to pretty it up. Everytime I pull something from under the hood, I clean and polish it and everything around it. I just wish I could work 40 hours, and not have this school crap getting in my way.
Removed the rubber coating on the center console and re painted it.
I have to do the same to mine, Ihave a few minor nicks that I see everytime I get in the car. It drives me crazy. Hopefully I will get the time to refinish them soon

BTW, did the shifter boot fit the first time?
Show pics of your hash marks!
Dont forget about the "Corvette Tax" thats applied to all vette parts and accessories. The boot fit *perfect* and looks like a million bux too! Its very good quality leather. The shifter **** was even better as it has a very firm feel to it whereas the old one was soft rubber underneath the leather. The shifting *feels* much better and precise with this ****. The hash marks turned out perfect! I was really surprised as I had had a lot of luck witrh that sort of thing in the past but I did somethign diff this time and read AND followed the instructions exactly (something unheard of for me) and it worked like a charm. Ill post pics soon. The silver looks great with the quasar blue paint and chrome sawblades. :blueangel:
DarkHalo,
Oh how I can relate!
The little things we see time after time and then get around to making better.
What a great feeling! - and one that only us 'not new Vette Drivers' enjoy to the highest degree.
Congrats on the improvements that have made you feel better and that have made the car look better.

And I think that here you have hit on something very, very important...how we can bring a damned fine sports car back to pristine condition....this is a thrill that the guys buying the brand new vettes dont know. Im not saying its better or anything like that, Id LOVE to strap on a brand new Z06!.....just that its something cool *we* (meaning the C4 and earlier gen guys) get to experience. My vette was in fantastic condition for being 11 yrs old when I bought it with 99k miles on it. Theres only been a few minor things I needed to do (still need to replace the crappy weatherstripping) but having done some of them I feel like Ive carried out a sacred duty. A duty to maintain an American Legend. To preserve a bit of automotive history. Maybe it sounds corny and hokey but thats how I feel about my vette. :blueangel:
Hey John, sounds like you're all set  Now all you need is another one of those tall leggy 6' blond girlfriends in the passenger's seat to complete the deal :D Love the idea of the silver hash marks, lookin' forward to seeing a pic!  :chevy :seeya

Re: Its the little things.... (bradvette)
My last gf was an even 6 ft tall, absolutely drop dead gorgeous leggy blonde...she was touchy about her height though and always said she was 5 ft 11 in tall. Theres another equally beautiful lady I work with Im scoping on now... :yesnod:
the hash marks are way cool looking...I wish I could find the damned digital camera cable my kids lost. Ill have to get some film developed before i can post some pics of them. :banghead:

Re: Its the little things.... (bradvette)
You don't really own a Vette, you just adopt her, treat her like a lady, and some day another owner down the road will appreciate that you did. :iagree:
1st was the broken plastic OD button with the shift pattern on the gear shifter
2nd was the tiny side vents located on the doors..only one was cracked but did both.......big spender here!
3rd cut a set of new keys and a nice stainless steel key chain with a C4 logo engraved on it to go with the keys ....hey, I had to splurge on this one!
......and the 4th will be my antenna mast, so it can come right down and make the car look complete.......this will have to wait till we get out of this crazy winter!!!!!
they are all small things but make a world of difference!
what i don't understand is how the PO didn't changed these things?
yia sure you're going to sell the car but again it's not the big $$$ or the difficult installation ........then again he was driving the car with a burnt clutch so i guess he didn't even have money for the more expensive stuff
