Not sure what they are for but I've seen a couple of C-4's with what appears to be cargo straps in the back. I'm not sure what they were for just no I don't have them, does anyone know what I'm talking about or am I hallucinating?
The ZR-1 has straps and hardware in the cargo area to secure a flat rear wheel/tire assembly for transport after installing the spare. The 315 on 11" wheel won't fit in the spare tire tub.
I read somewhere a long time back that the Coupe had to withstand the frontal barrier test with the roof panel stowed in its brackets in the cargo area without breaking loose and injuring the occupants. I wonder if the ZR-1 had to pass the same criteria with an 11" wheel/tire strapped down? I have no idea.
But if those straps you saw were in a Coupe, it was a ZR-1 only. Regular coupes never had them.
EDIT/ADD: 1bdvet mentioned his 89 Convertible had straps. I owned an 88 Convertible in the 90's and vaguely recall that it may have. I looked in my NCRS 84-87 Judging Reference Manual (still in its first edition, so over 20 years old now) and it mentions "Convertibles have a color-coordinated cargo strap in the rear compartment area."

Reason: Added reference to "convertible".
