Default Floor pan damage

I just discovered this damage to my 94 (not enough due diligence on pre purchase). Does this damage impact the mounting point for the drivers seat? Thanks for the info!

Looks like it just involves the fiberglass floor pan maybe from someone trying to jack car up in wrong spot. You can pretty it up with some glass patches but as is won't affect the seat mount.

Default ive done alot of smc panel bond repair on c4’s

from improper jacking. edit: doh! probably not that as IHBD points out below. Use the pinch welds.

to repair, scuff the crack 1” wide straddling the crack with a 220 grit or similar. grab a cheap sanding sponge block. Vacuum the dust while doing it. Wipe with papertowel dampened mildly with isopropyl alcohol. wipe the dust. top and bottom!

now grab some SMC compatible panel bond adhesive. squidge it out onto the cracks, use a rubber gloved dinger to squidge and rub it into the crack and coat all the fibres.

Same from the underside. Although, from the underside u may want to use some clear packing tape to tape over the repair to hold it up.

This will add rigidity back in, seal it up, and is very easy. The key is to completely press it into the crack. best to see it dripping/drooping out the underside after doing the top side first.

Let it cure for a couple days. This will make a very solid repair. paint as wanted.

example of a smc compatible panel adhesive (its an epoxy) note, buy the applicator gun too.

from improper jacking.
This damage was not caused by "jacking". The car drove over something. "Jacks" don't leave longitudal scrape marks as shown in the pics. Large rocks will.

Id say you are right on that. To be honest i didnt see that shot underneath.

Same fix advice. You could ad some *epoxy compatible* matt or woven material for strength but ive found as long as you get the topside and bottomside application to meet, ive dound the panel adhesive epoxy is halla strong.

Also, i also remembered that i started BOTTOM side first and held it in place with tape. Smooshing it up through the crack wherever possible. This way i didnt get air trapped.

I feel that floor repairs are a prime opportunity to try/learn "vacuum bagging". You need some additional supplies such as butyl tape to seal the perimeter of the bag to the floor, the plastic for the bag, and peel-ply that goes between the bag and the laminate to absorb the excess resin. For these simple, small repairs, a shop-vac would supply adequate vacuum. You should use an epoxy mix that gives at least an hour of working time, especially for beginners to the technique. The beauty of vacuum bagging is a nice, tight, no-voids laminate with a smooth surface. After it cures, peel the bag and peel-ply and you're done.

Hopefully, I'll never have to do any floor repairs. For a small crack, the epoxy in the crack is fine. For the damage in the OP's pics, plus to restore integrity to the seat mounts, I'd want a couple layers of lammy in addition to just a crack repair. But that's just me.

as long as it is SMC compatible resin you are good to go. Same with Apoxsee. Needs to be SMC compatible.

vacuum, bagging sounds awesome. I’ve watched videos where they vacuum bag resin through a carbon fibre part. It is amazing.

I have repaired a few over the years. Clean the area with 36 grit, mix some chopped glass with an SMC compound (I used 3M8115) make repairs did a second coat with just bonding agent or SMC Evercoat vette bond, did inside first. Than moved to underside and did the same the repair. painted with semi gloss.

Default UPDATE: Repair is done

Wanted to update everyone on this thread. I was able to complete the repair. I used a SMC resin and fiberglass mat. Took about 4 hours and a heat gun.
