Default Door adjustment

I know theres been at least two c3 posts talking about this being similar to c4 but i just dont know what or how to go about this. my driver side door is sagging so bad that i have to slam it and i even ended up damaging and losing my door panel. on top of that i also notice the latch where the striker sits in is awkwardly bending and isnt symmetrical with the bottom end. my main question on adjusting the door is whether to adjust from the door to the hinge section or hinge to body section. here are some pics

i put tape on the striker to make it thicker and it worked for sometime

i can physically pick up the door and feel that theres play. i even got it to perfectly close with minimum effort while lifting it lol. i know all i need to do is adjust the hinge but again should i mess with the door to hinge part or hinge to body part.

As an aside there are many threads on the issue, just have to search ''sagging door C4" on here.

But start with that first link before searching. Because that's where you need to start.

I'll second that reply. Check out your door hinge pins/bushings first.

i have already replaced the pins once however i did have doubts with the bushings. ive read on here that the bushings don’t matter and that theyre different for the diameter of the hole on the hinge ( bigger one with ridges for bigger hole and smaller brass one for smaller hole). i’ve also read that the bushings with ridges are supposed to go on the side of the head of the pin and brass on the bottom. im currently in the process and putting new bushings and pins again and would like to know from yall what rule should i follow

took the day today to work on the door and i got it better alined. i also went out and replaced the pins and bushings, however this did not fix my issue. so i undid the hinge from the body side and raised it a bit. that helped ALOT but still not perfect. next i did the hinge on the door side and pushed it in enough to get it so much better. the body line from the door to the underside of the car was such an eyesore and im glad i did it. it is not perfect whatsoever but i like it alot more. im glad i took the chance. i was originally skeptical of working on the hinges because 1 i dont have a jack currently and B i didnt have a helping hand either. it is definitely doable by balancing on the half off hinges and striker
