Default Is this gap normal????

I have a 1989 corvette 6 speed manual and I put it away for the winter. Was going to look at something today and was going to start it but my clutch is super light, but still returns to normal positioning. Cant tell if the cardboard was spilled on prior or if it was from this, so my main concern is this gap here. From what I remember I have seen it since I got the car and assumed it was okay. But maybe it isn’t. Let me know. Thanks to all.

thinking it leaked from there but hoping it’s not a huge problem. Didn’t want to refill to have it all leak again. I drove it a lot before putting it away and didn’t notice anything crazy.

That should be an inspection plate of some sort. They are there to keep dust and debris out but also give you a look at the bits between the trans and engine or on a auto like mine let you disconnect the flex plate from the torque converter. They don't really seal.

If you have oil on the bottom of it you would need to determine if it's coming from the outside of the engine (oil pan, sensors, valve cover) and that it's just flowing down the cover, or if it's coming from the back of the engine (rear main) and flowing down on the inside between the trans and engine... that is the less fun diagnosis.

yea I found out it is supposed to be that way and going to fill up the empty oil spot and hope for no other leaks and have my clutch peddle stiffer again. I’ll see in the morning if that’s the issue or not. Fingers crossed. But don’t know why the oil was low to begin with.
