You have to take your time and go around and make sure each plastic peg is completely in the hole. Someone here suggested silicon will help them go in easier. I had one plastic peg 3/4 of the way in and it was a problem, especially on the forward part of the door that touches first. It has the most pressure on it if not in correctly.
$1400 for weatherstripping? I treated all my vehicles weatherstripping once a year but think I'll go to twice a year.
There are some bracket-like items that I'll probably be returning. I asked CRC to send me one of everything I could possibly need. $1400 cost is likely to go down some, but I want to be certain I'll have access to everything. Hate order and mail time.
Just finished my weatherstripping. Like Corvetterules, cleaning the adhesive and stuck rubber out of the channels was a real bear. It took me two long days and multiple dremel brushes. Took another 1/2+ day to clean my interior and garage. Megan at Corvette Rubber Company sent me the right products, and all were installed with no adhesive. CRC is definitely the way to go for weatherstripping.
Great to hear of your success and CRC fitting correctly. I do feel your pain in the prep needed but the good news is if you ever need to replace a piece in the future just pull easily off and tuck new one in.
I hadn't ever heard of Steele Rubber but have seen them mentioned a few times recently whenever the topic of weatherstip has come up around the board.
I looked at Steele Rubber inventory for our C4s on their web site and it looked pretty good from just the visuals.
Only thing that looked questionable, at least to me, would be their rear hatch strip. The corner has a seam that looks like it's guaranteed to split in short order.
Other than that, the rest of the the kit seemed to look alright.
Here's a comparison of Steele's rear hatch strip versus CRC's illustrating what 'm talking about with regard to the corners...

That seam.like ateele has is the way the factory did it, and it will absolutely tear in short order, you're correct.
