Default 84's collectable next year?

What is the general concensus on 20 year old corvettes? Has the pricing bottomed out or will the continue to depreciate? Or, will they start to rise as collectables? Your thought are appreciated.

I have heard it said more than once, that no Corvette is worth less than $5K...unless it is burnt up. I would venture that the 84's have bottomed out, and will start to climb in value one day, but not today. The 84's are great cars!!!

I believe that ORIGIANL '84's will apreciate. For a while people will consider the 84 to be the bargain basement and not pay attention then there will be a boom for there unique characteristics. :chevy

I think the '84 in pristine factory condition will be more popular among collectors than the later ones, partly because their unique, and the first model year, and a far greater percentage of them have been neglected or modded beyond restoration. Now, that doesn't necessarily translate into an increase in price anytime soon.

I suspect some time after 10 years or so, guys will be buying em for collections, and not performance. Right now, people are buying because its simply more affordable, great bang for the buck if you're building a monster from the ground up, or even keeping it stock.

On another note, in the year 2013, '84 vettes will be smog exempt in California. This will have a huge affect in the prices IMO over here.

Right now, pre-74s cars sell for more because of this.

Why do '84 vettes have to wait so long to be Smog Exempt???
Sure wish it was now...so I could legally do more mod's to mine.....

:withstupid: The only year that had more Vettes produced than 84 was 79. They will never be worth much money.

If you take a look at Corvette history, you will see that almost all the Corvettes produced that have a 4 at the end, are worth considerably less than their brethren.... '54, '64, '74 and yes, '84.
Poor transmission and tuned port inj. don't help its value.
They will probably bottom out and stay at that level... a driver priced from
$3-$5k.
If you want one that will appreciate, try a different year, but in general, C4's are not very collectible.
The chrome bumper cars are now the ones appreciating, and buyers are scooping them up for later profits.
The older the car you can afford, the better the appreciation (in most cases).

There is still hope for getting a C3 with a good price.

:bs Not collectible?? I understand that not all C4's are collectible, nor many C3's, but don't forget the Grand Sports, LT4 cars, ZR1's, 40th cars, 35th cars, Callaways, etc.....there are many collectible C4's out there. :yesnod:

exactly. and the `82 /`84s have different air cover designs, so that makes each year a little different. Give the `84 is the only C4 xfire, and debued as the worlds fastest production car, etc (see Car & Driver) I think then when more of them start disappearing (junkyards, mods, etc), they will be even more unique simply because no other year was like them.

Granted this might take 10-15 years, but I can see a mint condition 84 being something, especially when it's a CFI antique.

How much of something... well that will depend on how many of them survive.

it'll take longer for the '84's, but they'll appreciate down the road. not near as much as others & it'll be a long time yet. my neighbor has a perfect '84, keeps it garaged, covered, never driven in rain, etc.

in 1984 you could buy a 1964 corvette for 7500 to 17000 depending on the car. today those same cars are worth 30,000 to over 90,000. the same thing was said about the 1964 corvettes. nothing out of the ordinary. in 1984 i sold a 1972 lt1 vert for 11,500. today that same car will bring 40,000.

the price of a 1984 is up today if the car is right. what i mean by that is a perfect origional 1984 corvette will bring tripple what an average one will bring.
