Default A/C compressor rebuild??

Is there a "rebuild kit" for a 1988 A/C unit? My research shows it was only used a couple years in the C4, not sure if it was the same on F-Bodies??

Mine works fine, but the clutch on it started tossing black oil all over (just after I detailed it, of course!). Don't know why/what/anything on it, but it was coming from the "nose/clutch" part of the compressor, I assumed a front oil seal bit the dust & compressor oil blew all over.

I thought I'd just get a rebuilt unit but the price is over $500. Ouch! I looked and haven't found any "kits" to rebuild the original compressor. Not a purest but I'd trust my rebuilt compressor over a replacement one.

Can anyone point me in some direction? Either a kit for my unit, a good rebuilder, or a replacement that will work? Mine leaks, worth just tearing it apart & replacing any seal I can get at??

Thanks!

Yes, in 88 Corvette switched to the Denso designed compressor. Seal kits are cheap and easy to install and no special tools are required. Make sure the kit you buy has the plastic thread protector tool included so you don't damage the new seal installing it.
