Default My next vette

I sold my 79 this past July and have regretted every since, but the money was used for a down payment on a house and a new 24X30 garage.
Anyway Im looking for a vette and am haveing a hard time figuring out what I want.
I am tore between a 73 to 79 or an 85 to a 89.
A C4 with ride comfort, air that don't bog down the motor and the prices are good.Add Flowmasters, chip,K&N,ETC=cool reliable ride.
Or a mid C3 that I can make a lopy hotrod and would rather not have air in the way of the motor, but the rearends scare me,but the prices are getting up there.
Did I see a site I could go to that told the good and bad of each year?

Corvette Forum Buyers Guide

this thread should help.

I would recommend at least an 89. get the 6spd. gotta go there.

also, look at a 90 or 91. newer, with the better interior.

as always, newer the better.

I dont know why C4's have such a bad rep. I mean I hear every other group trashing them and I think nothing beats that fighter jet cockpit feel of our rides. But I have no doubt that history will tell the truth :blueangel:

General rule of thumb for C4s is buy the best conditioned, newest one you can find. As for the rest of the thread, I would stay away from Flowmaster Mufflers. REALLY bad resonance on the interior, it would drive anyone sane nuts. There are plenty of other, better aftermarket exhaust companies with products for the C4.
Good luck in your decision.

My Flows only make me crazy from 1800-2200 RPM. Stay out of that range on the highway and its smooth semi-quiet sailing. Granted its pretty noisy inside to begin with, especially the 6-speed models but I like it that way. :yesnod: :blueangel:

I'd go for the C4 also.

The C4 is better. It rides better. Better gas mileage in a trip, more comfort and a C4 gets more attention than a 78-79. Plus that 79' is very old and everything needs to be replaced in most cases. The 89 up will leave a 79 in the dust and the C4 looks more expensive. My advice buy a red one!!!!!
Get a 89 or newer....

I looked at the site above about what goes wrong with C4s and it looked kind of expensive to fix broken stuff.
It looks like you could have a lot more tied up in fixing stuff.

I would go with the C4....great deals out there on late 80's and early 90's models and you get alot of vette for the money. Since you already know what a C3 is like....get out there and test drive a couple of C4's so you know what they are like....and you will see a big difference. :)

C4 for sure. My C3 was up on jack stands so much that I hardly ever drove it. It had the "one more thing to fix" disease. One day I sat down with the catalogs and added up the cost to up the power, handling, and appearance. Wow, I had to face reality. Buy a C4 and you have it all in an affordable package. Educate yourself and be sure to take a veteran C4 owner with you when you go shoppin! Been there, done that, spent the $$$$$$$$$ :cry :_dupe:

All I've had to replace on my 95 so far is heater core and battery, and of course a few sets of rear tires :reddevil

Im really going to start looking For a C4.85 thru 89 is what I could afford.
I want an automatic and really want a black or blue one.
Like I said Im going to add mufflers, chip K&N and some cool looking aftermarket rims.
Im more of a hot rod car person than all stock person.
I have a 71 Cutlass with an Olds 350 I need to get rid of for the space in the garage but am having a hard time doing it (no buyers).
It runs perfect and the drive trane is very tight and alot of new parts.
It needs the seats and headliner redone.$4500
Paint is OK for now,I feel the drivetrane is the time consuming and expensive part, you can get a paint job on any corner!
