KBB Private Party put my '92 at $9,815 in July, 2002 but since I have no plans to sell it, who cares? I didn't buy it as an investment in money.... it's an investment in my happiness.
17-18k is probably what you could get for a 94-95 right now... private party in the paper... dont waste your time trying to trade it in, unless you have a good supply of vaseline. :nonod:
Did you get your wheel bearings taken care of?
I got the windows tinted on my 94 at Shadow. He said he spent 3 hours on my hatch. .. they love doing Vettes
Why ask why. We know theres alway gonna be a variation in value just as there is a variation in condition. Yours is worth what the buyer and you agree on. We always hear of the great deals or the seller that lucks out fiding the right customer. Those value guides are for the dealers and people who aint into vettes yet. I wouldnt recommend goin by any book value unless it was for an insuance pay out or a trade in on a new vehicle.
I think most people shopping for a used car know that dealers do next to nothing beyond shining them up. There's less resistance to a private party sale than there was a few years ago. I think for this reason the difference in price you would expect to pay, private vs dealer has shrunk.
I would expect to get around $18K for my 94 vert with hardtop and 30k miles. A dealer would ask $23 but settle for $20, I'm sure.
With a clean car fax and that low mileage I should be able to get the same as a dealer but I don't think I would, just because of people's expectations.
dont get excited. its just a book and books dont buy cars. the book gives used car dealers a base line of where to start on a car. the real good ones can be way over book and the real bad ones can be way under book. its just an average of what other cars like it have sold for in other areas.

Yeah, but unfortunately, that wasn't the problem. Had to replace the u-joints on the left half shaft, will do the right half shaft soon. The outboard u-joint on the left was frozen, couldn't turn it with a wrench. I have no idea how we made it home, but we did. Just doing the left one has cured a host of noises and ills. When the u-joint was pressed out, there were no needle bearing left under one cap, just "dust". The other three seem to be fine.
When I bought my 87 last week, I went to get the title transferred and pay the Washington State "Use Tax" (sales tax) on the deal and the nice lady told me that the state said the car was worth $10,780 at the retail level!!! That wold have been about $876 in taxes I would have had to pay.
The state revenue dept. had been complaining that private party sale were not bringing the correct taxes as the private buyer/sellers were using a low and perhaps not a true dollar amount for the sale price when transferring titles (can't imagine anybody doing that :blueangel: ). So they built a sort of "blue book" of what they called fair market values in the western regional states from a supposed industry standard source called National Market Reports. My local Chevy dealer has never heard of them being used when determining trade in value or sale price!!
There is no way in this @^&*# deal to plug in things like high or low mileage, condition or even options. The state just brings up the year and model and thats what you pay. I printed some info from the KBB site that showed my 87 to have a car dealer retail value of about 7500 and a private party value of about $5000. They said pretty web page but so what.
I finally got an appeal form to fill out where I was able to get the tax down to a reasonable value but I had to go back to the seller and get him to sign the form before I could get a break. :mad
