I saw something called a vortex rammer and I was wondering what the heck that is. It wasn't as much $ as a turbo or a supercharger. I asked a guy who was selling one but he didn't want to tell me I guess.
Check forum member submitted product reviews, I think there's a few on it. Mixed opinions if I remember right.
Its really just a cold air (outside air) system, doesn't do any ramming. Ram air doesn't help anyhow. In order to get actual ram air effect you would have to get going like 600+ mph with a perfectly shaped scoop facing directly into the air flow, if I vaguely remember the scientific explanation correctly...

Id much prefer the SLP Cold air for the 85-89 which dont have a slanted radiator. Its cheaper and it does the same thing. If i had an LT1 or C5, id be using the Vortex.
But its important to note that these things arent really worth the money on a stock motor that CANT use all the air they flow. In theory these cold air setups should work, but until youve modded your engine, i doubt if youd see much gains over a K&N with an open lid.
If you want some things to help your power, remove the screens in the MAF sensor and bypass the TB coolant hoses.

Ram air systems certainly work, and you don't need to be going 600+ MPH. Motorcyles have shown 12-20 RWHP gains using ram air intake systems. Now the BPP unit really isn't a ram air system, just gets cooler air from under the radiator shroud. Not a bad design, but nothing too spectacular either. I like TPIS's design better, they still make it for the L98's, just not for the LT1/4's anymore.
