Re: ANTENNA!!!!@$@$!*# (ScottsLT1)
what died? The motor, or did the ribbon just stop working/get stripped? Can you still get radio stations with the antenna in the down position?
If you still get radio stations just fine, might as well leave it, if its stuck down :D (unless you want it to come up) Personally, the lil black rubber ones wouldnt look right to me. But then again, thats just my opinion.
yoslambo, thanks, yeah its up the whole way it wont go down, yea the motors running, thats the good part. Eclkers is $29 for the mast and ribbon anyone cheaper?

Re: ANTENNA!!!!@$@$!*# (ScottsLT1)
The antenna is a device with moving parts and electronics, any of which can fail. Our cars are aging. If you fix an original antenna it is likely another component of it will eventually fail. Rather than spend money on repairing an old antenna, I installed an electric aftermarket one (Hirschman). Cost was under $50. The benefit was a new chrome antenna that looks like it belongs on the car. It works like new because it is. You can purchase one at any major auto parts store (several brands available). Knowledge of your car and electronics is helpful. A good "car guy" is even more valuable. If I can do this in a short afternoon, so can you. ;)
Does it not work at all or will it go in one direction and not the other? Mine will go up everytime but won't go down unless I help it. I was told the ribbbon was stripped. It's a PITA to get to take the antenna out of the car but it's worth fixing.
BTW, if you put on one of the little black whip antenna, you would ruin the lines of the car.....just my humble opinion of course. :yesnod:
Guys by the way its stuck the whole way up I turned on the car it went up but wouldnt come back down!!! the motor is running . When i get the new mast should i push the old one down or just break it off?does it matter?

DON'T break it off!! LOL, there's a little nut down there that's round and has two flat spots on it. You'll need a six point socket, and probably a pair of pliers or channel locks. Slide socket all the way down antenna and make sure it's set to remove the nut, and use the pliers or channel locks to twist it. It's black so it's hard to see. Once that's done, just make sure the radio's on and the motor has stopped working, then just pull it out from the little black tip on the antenna. Then look at the ribbon and see if you can see where the little teeth have worn off. Just stick the new ribbon of the new mast in there and have a friend turn the radio off and on for you until you get the ribbon in correctly and it pulls the antenna down. Then make sure it works, probably will need coaxing the first few times up and down. If it doesn't work, then you need to replace the motor. There's a link above my post from Mojo, buy it from there, I posted a tech tip detailing the install of the new motor. It's kind of a PITA. :smash:
