I am extremely obsessive about my car and hated having to drive it in nasty weather but alas after 1000 miles of slush I need to get all the crap off the hood where the tires throw up water and crap, I have kept the car washed and engine clean but the wheelwell areas of the hood will not come clean-I've tried a power washer, scrubbing with a brush, and various paint-safe cleaners but it is still not right
any ideas?

The fronts really do get dirty. I'm sure mine are a mess, I just got back from a ride. I could'nt wait another week, or day. The roads are a mess from the melting snow. I removed all of the fromt panels last summer and cleand, then waxed them. It made some improvement. I though about having them painted black, I just don't know how that would work.
i think if they were really clean maybe some kind of plastic dye would retore them but I am at a loss for how to get the underside of the hood clean, who knows-I am going to try alot of hot water as it dissolves salt pretty good, then a good cleaning of all suspension components, just not today

I cleaned my upper wheel wells real good simple green. Then lightly sanded and painted with GM chassis black from Corvette Central. They statyed nice till winter snow. WHen I clean them good next week I will let you know if it worked.
I use Honda Pro Polish spray (aerosol) motorcycle cleaner - It is good enough for the plastic and painted parts on my scooter so...
Avail. at Honda cycle shops in a black spray can.

Re: After winter clean up? (belmor)
When we're talking wheel wells, just wash them for now. When the temperature in your area gets to be over 55 every day, make this a weekend project. For the fronts, take off a wheel and clean the wells as best you can. Dry them well and mask off anything you don't want painted. Get a can of black bumper paint at the parts store. This is made for plastics and things that may flex. It should be a satin--not too glossy or too flat. In back, pull a wheel off and remove the inner wheel well. Again, clean it up and dry it well. Then spray a couple of coats on. Let it dry and reinstall. While you have the wheels off, clean the insides of the wheels and inspect the brake lines, etc. The whole project shouldn't take more than two-three hours and won't cost more than the can of black bumper paint.
As far as the hood surface areas go, pick up a light duty 3M pad or some steel wool. Clean them up, wipe them off and touch up with black satin paint. Be sure to cover any areas you don't want paint on with old towels or newspaper.
