Default hood support

Just got my 86 Pace car and raised the hood to look at the engine bay and boy is that sucker heavy. Does that mean my hood support needs replacing or are they all that hard to raise up? If it needs replacing does anyone know where to get the part and about how much it costs? Thanks.

It must need something as I can raise the hood on my '91 easily with 1 hand. Is the hood support on the drivers or passengers side? Ive heard quite a few people say they upgraded to the drivers side style and it was a lot easier to deal with. And its not an expensive mod at all either. Im sure a search will turn up info on it, Good luck  :blueangel:

The '84 type support was a scissor hinge located on the passenger side, it also employed two small gas struts located on the hinges. Don't know what year they switched, but the large gas struts (same type as used on the back hatch) are located on the driver side. They do lose gas over time and need to be replaced. Jeff Kopp has them for about $55.00. Hope that helps.
