My 90 top has a couple of small tears in the folding area. I might be able to repair them, but the top would still be white! I really want to install a new black top. I think that it would set off the bright red paint & black GS wheels much better. Has anyone attempted to replace their own top? I am pretty mechanically inclined, but have not tried to do this type of work. The top would be the cloth type, not the vinyl. It would have the standard plastic window. I never drive the car in the rain or snow so I don't need a rear defroster. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you should be able to tackle that one. I'll be doing this some time this year also. I've seen write-ups on this b/4 but can't tell you where I saw them. I'm sure other will chime in.
Not that difficult to do. You might want to talk to someone with some experience, maybe a local shop your familiar with. I went to a class on top replacement at Ecklers yearly car show a few years ago, don't know if you can get any info from them, but might be worth a call. Either way, I'd give it a shot if I was you. :yesnod:
I bought a replacement top a couple years ago for mine, and still have not gotten around to putting it on. I've debated about getting a local shop to do it, or try it myself. I thought that one of the magazines did an article on replacing a C4 top a few years ago, but can't remember for sure. I'll have to dig through the piles and see if I can find it. If I do have it, I'll do mine myself. I'll also see about posting the how to on here for everyone else.
