plastic polish takes out light scratches , 3M makes a pretty good product. If it is deeper than that will take out you can use a 1000 grit sand paper then polish.
I think there is a bit more involved than the sanding and polishing. There is a coating on the top - the coating is what "scales" off after a few years.
I'm not sure how the top will blend between the scratch area (where you will sand through the coating) and the area where the coating is still there. It may look great but it might not.
I removed the coating from mine because it was scaling. I used 600, 1200 and then 1500 grit wetsanding paper and then polished with a buffer (non orbital) and glaze polish. Be careful not to buff to hard/long on any area as the top will melt.
Not trying to scare you off, and my top looked fine, but I wonder how it will blend between the coating.
