I have a chance to buy a 1995 Corvette... black, with auto trans, sport seats and 87k miles. It's in great shape and owned by a friend who takes extremely good care of it. I can buy the car for $9500 because of my connection with the owner. I've been checking prices and it seems too good to pass up, but... my one worry... how expensive are repairs on vettes. I realize ya'll are fanatics :) but at this point I'm not... I think it's a great looking car, but I'm not really a car guy. I'm worried that cost of ownership will make me regret the purchase. Any thoughts? (besides pass it up and give you the seller's phone number ) :lolg:
Secondly...it is a sports car...some things can get very pricey when you talk about replacing whole parts or computer stuff...as for basic stuff..filters, hoses, oil..no more than what anybody else would pay. Tires can get pricey..but you have alot of options to choose from.
Word of Advice..Find a trustworthy mechanic who knows what he's doing on LT-1s just in case!
If you decide to get a(this) vette...I don't think you will be dissapointed once you get out on the highway! Just my thoughts!
Thats an incredible deal! The money you saved would easily pay any repairs. You would pay twice that price from a dealer or someone you didnt know im sure.
To answer your question.. yes, repairs can be expensive, but you have to remember 1 thing, you have 44,000 people here to help you. I didnt know anything about fixing corvettes and thought it was some kind of "supercar" that couldnt be worked on, but soon realized it was just like any other and that with the help of the other forum members I have tackled many jobs myself that I would never have thought of on my own! Im sure that there are also forum members in the area that would glady give you a hand for a case of beer and a handshake! We always take care of our own!
In Summary: BUY IT! You will not regret it, you will LOVE IT! JMHO
vr,
volt
Haven't bought it yet... be a month or so before my friends ready to sell... he's going to move out of the country for a few years and when he does he's going to part with the vette. The sentiment seems to be that it's a good deal and I'd be nuts to pass it up. I know I'll be on the forum getting advice for a good long time... so far I'm impressed with the response and the unity! Thanks!

Re: Newbie needs help... (VetteDebating)
Good buy! Buy it. Once you start drivin it you will turn into a car guy. :auto:
There is a problem with "Corvette Tax" whereby some suppliers jack up the price just cause it says Vette. Join a local Corvette club and whenever you have a problem go to them for help with the solution. Best of all, members of the forum are very helpful and have got the T-shirt from bein there before. The pool of knowledge here is fantastic and free. Before you know, you will also be an expert and can pass advice on to others! :seeya
