Whenever the heat or air conditionining is on in my '84 vette, the air flow comes out of all holes. The heat works, and the Air works, but I can't switch between the floor, vent or defroster--comes out in all 3 places.
Are there common problems when it comes to this? I've already replaced the vacuum thingy that the hoses contraption behind the dash slide switches plugs into--that black plastic thing that turns by vacuum is what I replaced. The little prong/tip is in the track and everything, but the air flow still comes out of all holes. When I move the slide directional switch, the vacuum actually turns the thing. I replaced the black thing that the hoses plug into just in case--the old one worked (the wheel turned when I moved the slide switch) just like the new one works.
What's up with that?
*My cruise works whenever it wants to and I have a hesitation/cough sometimes when I step on the gas as I'm going a steady speed around town. To me this indicates a vacuum problem. Yea--I'm a brainiac.

Re: 84 Vacuum problem (84 Cross Fire)
If it's not the thing, it could be the thing. Or maybe even the thing. I've got the same problem on my '86, and it's a broken vacuum line running from behind the distributor to the vacuum check valve near the firewall. It's hard to get to and I'm lazy. Bad combination.
Haven't had that rpoblem yet...did I say YET? I do get a hesitation when I switch from vents to defrost, etc as if the vacuum is trying hard to make the switch, but it does work after about 5 seconds.
