After a little research, I'm wondering if the VATS in my 91 would really be the problem. The car starts fine, but the chimes sound like they have a high pitch & when I leave the key turned in the ignition without starting it, the chimes sound like they are fading away as if they are loosing power. I also just changed the car battery. Is something related? Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed..
My chimes do the same thing and sometimes they completely quit, well most of the time.......sounds really funny, like the car is going nuts...all kinds of chimes......you can replace the chime module if you want. It is under the knee bolster......I'll just leave mine kaputt.....
That is exactly what mine just started doing. In fact I just went out there & they have quite too.. Is this related to my battery change? Is it just the chimes Vs. the beginning of something worse?

Re: Interior Chimes sound weak (MrBigButt98Conv)
I haven't had the pleasure of that yet. LoL. Actually I hate that damn chime. One day if mine doesn't fade soon, I'm gonna find it and smash it. Lmao. :yesnod:
Yep, fading chimes, and related funny noises is a characteristic of chime module going bad. Does not hurt performance so I don't worry about it.
It is a defect in the little circuit board, as well the way the chime component is soldered. All of us C4 people will experience it, even the ZR1 folks. If you REALLY love wrenchin', and have alot of time on your hands (as my retired friend does), it can be fixed.
Myself, (mine is spastic also) I agree with the post that says they'll smash the fu@&*!g thing.
But if you want to go after it, IM me and I'll give you my friends phone number. He'll be more than glad to walk you through the repair. Hell, it's what he lives for............
