I was watching the Jesse James Documentery on discovery and remember watching some interior Door fix up on HorsePower TV on TNN. Anyway they should that you take 1/4 inch foam, and then make a shape or symbol out of it and put it under the leather and either stitch it to it, or glue it.
Now I was thinking, has anyone done this to the head rest of a Corvette? Say put the Word "CORVETTE" into the head rest by those kinds of procedures? ANy pics? Or has anyone done this to another car, or part of the car? I think it would look cool that way :yesnod:
Not quite the same thing, but I had some monogramming done on my seats which were done in cloth. However, the monogram shop I took the material to will scan and digitize anything. You could get just about anything you want put on the headrest. Cost was bout $30 for the seats. Look at my album: http://groups.msn.com/EliteSpeedofOk...asproject.msnw
Also check out the visors. Had them customized too.
Well I want to paint the exterior black and then keep the interior red but replace the carpet and the seats,. So it would be like Black with red guts ;)
Also near the end of this year I plan on doing some engine mods, most likely a custom Twin Turbo setup.
But about the stitching, Say if I have some foam cut into some text, then I lay the foam under the leather and stitch around the text. But what Do I stitch to? Do I sandwhich the foam text inside two pieces of leather and then take that ad put it on the head rest?
I think red interior and black exterior would be cool.
Well even if I was to use the stiching I waould also glue in my inserts. Yes either a material behind the foam to sew into ... or ... stitch your pattern flat, adhese the pattern to the back and stretch it around the frame.
If you have experience with sewing machine I wish you good luck ... if it was my car (or motorcycle) I would have a specialist do it! Danny Gray comes to mind.
Flame inserts in your seats ... do a dash mat too . then Candy apple ghost flames over the black exterior ... oh, you are going to need some fat rubber and wide wheels too!
Thanks, Im going to go to Micheals today and try it out on some leather or someother material like leather maybe vinyle just to see how it works out and how I can make it.
I'll try this a couple of times, but If I cant do it, I'll just have a specialist do it for me.
Now for the foam? The leather goes over the foam, and then under it? Or another piece would under the foam? So in the end, you would be stitching the leather to the other piece of leather and the foam insert is just there to pop the (Flames or text) up and give it some definition?
Sounds like you andswered your own question. Yes by sewing the two peices of material the impression will be a more obvious appearance.
Depending on how tight your stretch is will also make a difference in appearance.
I was looking for some photos but I once made all of my seat foam out of bulk seat foam.
Cut it to a basic but thicker shape (to ensure a tight stretch. Then I made a pattern of flames out of the same foam of about a 2" thickness. I glued that to the other seat foam Then when I streched the cover over it fit way tight and popped pefectly ... Oh yes they did take a whike to pull over and center but it worked ....it was at least 20 years ago...
Daum, I got this 12x9 2mm thick foam padding from Micheals.
SO I can do it one way is to take a piece of foam, cut it into some text or a shape or flames. Then glue that to another piece of foam, then take the leather and put it over it and either glue it, or stitch it? Thanks for the help, I'm going to try this out and see how it comes out, :yesnod:
I had my seat covers changed by a professional..I thought i could do it until i seen how much was involved.. I would recommend you take the seats to someone who does car seats for a living..
BTW...Here is a pic of a headrest embroidered...
