I've seen several articles that talk about hiding an ignition cut off or fuel pump cut off switch to help as a theft deterrent. Has anyone installed one on a C4? Is there any harm in installing a fuel pump cut off switch?
I would be interested in any pointers on practical theft deterrent systems. It would be appreciated.
I'm not interested installing a noise making alarm system that no one pays attention to, GM did that for me. I don't want a "Protected by Smith & Wesson" bumper sticker either :)
Re: Theft deterrent system / cut off switch (DelcoVette)
There was an aftermarket one installed in mine by a previous owner. It is an ignition pass switch. The ignition switch must be in the on position, a hidden button is pushed and the ignition circuit is activated. Without pushing the button, there is no power to the starting circuit and the engine won’t crank. I do not know who the manufacturer is, but I understand it was a dealership add on at the time.
Re: Theft deterrent system / cut off switch (Steel Blue 91)
The paranoid original owner of my 85 had a 2 proximity sensor, alarm system installed, and also had it set up so that the starter circuit runs through the cruise control. If the CC switch is off, it will not crank. Incidentally, the car was seized by the Feds before the poor slob had a chance to register and title the car. It was held in solitary confinement at a GSA warehouse in Boston until 1992 when it was auctioned.
