The main reasons I became a Vette nut was because of their style and of course, the performance. Today, however, my current Vette, a 1986 convertable, would be eaten by the likes of the new Dodge Neon (0 to 60=5.8 seconds, 1/4 mile=13.8), and the Suburu WRX (0 to 60=5.4 seconds). As a rule I don't tend to race, but nowadays when these ugly econoboxes rev their engines to you at a stop sign and you know you can't beat them, well that's pretty depressing. I can remember the days when any sub 10 second 0 to 60 time was considered quick(mid seventies through mid eighties), and economy cars ran in the mid teens. The line is being blurred today that separates the true performance cars and these freakish econoboxes. I don't know what the 0 to 60 time is for the new C6 but it's probably less than a second away from the two cars I mentioned. Does this bother anyone else or am I just being ****.
IMHO, you're being too **** about it. Look at it this way, it took the econoboxes 15 YEARS to catch you in in HP but most are still years away from the TQ the L98 is putting out and they will NEVER look as nice as you're Corvette! It took me quite a while to realize how much better built the LS1/6 engines are compared to the engines previous to it. I'm modding the crap out of my '87 just to hope to get it in the low 13's. These LS engines (especially the F-bodys) with the same mods would be low 12's in not high elevens!!  Don't worry about messing with them econo cars. Let them rev away b/c there will be a late model V8 brethren of yours that will put him in his place. ;) :D :reddevil
Of course I drag race my '88 Vette so those mid 5.x sec 0-60 boxes are not at all pesky (at the strip my 0-60 time is about 4.6sec).
If you want a "little" more HP from your L98 (you have a roadster so I assume Al heads) the path is pretty well set.
-exhaust-replace front Y, cat & cat-back (use tunable if noise is an issue)
-temp-low temp stat, fan sw & TB coolant bypass
-intake-K&N with SLP ram-air, gutted MAF, ported plenum & upper runners
-underdrive crank/overdrive alt pulley set
-1.6:1 RRs
-tweak the TPS and advance base timing a little
These should get you into the 290chp range and be very streetable.
Then toss in a 2,000rpm TC and TransGo shift kit and you will have a new awakening. Your Vette should then run in low 13s with very low 5.x sec 0-60 time. And you still have head porting, cam & LT headers if you feel the need for a "little" (say 60chp) more; this will put you well into the 12sec class, along side a well driven Z06.
I don't think you're being ****, but maybe just feeling the need for some upgrades. You might be surprised at the performance potential of your L98.
I was just thinking the same thing. I read a list of top 100 cars in a UK car mag. The Corvette isn't listed because it's LHD.
I was amazed how many very fast cars are out there. My attitude at the lights (only had the car 4 weeks !!) so far has been not to floor it, mainly because I thought I would win, so nothing to prove.
Some of those mods are looking more interesting.
I agree about the torque, it brings up a big grin every time the trans slips into overdrive. For most town driving I have my foot off the throttle just cruising along - I get a few seconds to push it up to the speed limit after a turn or traffic lights then my foot is off the gas waiting for the next turn - it's crazy......but good!!!!
I think I'll keep that attitude of, "We'll race when I say so" - but now it's because my car is special in many ways.
Also you must remember that you are not in the USA.
Here we are kind of 'limited' by real performance cars..
I presume you are from Australia, you guys have quite a few faster
small displacement cars than we do here...
