I brought my car in last Sun to have new hoses for the coolant put on and also to find out why my car has been running badly, in addition to finding the exhaust leak. I just got it back yesterday. They flushed the engine, flushed the injectors, cleaned the fuel filter, flushed the exhaust, new spark plugs, and ran the car with a scanner on it.
Nothing about the exhaust or car problem was solved. As I was driving today, I got the exhaust problem again and got it exactly how I told them to find it. This is like the 5th time they've said there was nothing wrong with it but I can feel the vibration pretty easily.
The lazy bastages even replaced my 160 thermostat with a 195! Its supposed to have a 180, I thought, so why would they put in a 195? You would think they'd check it out before they replace anything.
When I bring it back in to get that thermostat put back in, I'm gonna see if I can't get the exhaust acting up again so I can prove it to them right then and there.
I too will never bring my car back to the Fayetteville Dealer for service. I am pretty sure you have to pass a retard test to work there. They charged me for a coolant system flush, but they did'nt touch the overflow tank which was empty except for the orange brown sludge. I asked them if the overflow tank was part of the coolant system, they said no. Then I asked them to read along with me in the owners manual on how to reach the proper coolant level. (see overflow tank). I made them take the tank off and clean it out while I waited. They looked like a bunch of monkeys playing with a football. The whole time telling me that was not part of the service, what a crock.
I understand. That's why I went to Gordon's school to learn how to do it myself. Now I can hand the keys back to myself and say
"Sorry, I couldn't find anything wrong". :lolg: :lolg:

I noticed that, too! I should go in there and tell them to clean it out as well.
I think there is more knowledge here on the forum that in all the dealer ships combined. I don't think there would be to many disagreements with that statement. :yesnod:
I've actually had pretty good luck with my local Chevy dealership. I attribute this to the fact that they replace everything within 3 feet of where they think the problem is -probably- coming from.
I think the real problem is that most Chevrolet dealerships do not have a Corvette-specific service branch. I mean, you buy this expensive, complicated sportscar and then you have to take it to a bunch of mechanics that were trained on Cavaliers and Silverados. Come on! Do Porsche owners have to take their cars to the VW dealership? What about Jaguar owners, do they just roll down to their friendly Ford service department? NO! This is a fundamental problem with Chevy dealerships, at least in my area. They look at a Corvette owner as just another Joe customer that they can screw over and say, "Uh, all of them make that annoying clanging noise. It's normal."
The few people I know who have had good luck at dealerships bought their cars from a Corvette-only Chevy dealership. This is a world of difference. Most of us have to deal with a salesperson who doesn't even know that a Corvette is rear wheel drive, and service personnel who basically have as much knowledge about the car as you and I do and have to make it up as they go along. In my opinion, Chevy and GM better do something about this, or they are going to lose that customer base that went out and bought all of those C5s.

Yep, when my headlight burned out on my '96, I called up my dealer, asking if they had replacements. He said, Yes, come on down. I went down there..he gave me the box and I was about to leave. I decided to open the box and it was a glass light. I went back and told them it was glass..should be plastic. They were like huh?..They had no clue what I was talking about. They were all asking each other...one guy said he thought I was right. He remembers hearing something about that...but they didn't stock anything like that!?!? So, I went to NAPA and there they were.
When my 88 was my daily driver, I took it to a GM dealership for scheduled maintenance. When I picked it up, a cooling system flush was on the bill. I raised the hood and the fluid in the expansion tank (overglow tank) was filthy. I ask the shop owner, why. He said the mechanic had screwed up. Next we pulled the radiator cap and guess what. None of the coolant had been changed. Another hit on the QC department. Pulled the oil dipstick and the oil was not fresh either. After this experience, I asked for a refund and took it to another dealership and got permission to watch them service the car.
Oh yeah, let me tell you about my request for info on long term storage. The first clue that the info is bad/dated is when they tell you to pour oil into the carb. I guess GM forgot they put Fuel Injection in the 96 model. :banghead:

No, I think Chevy will expect Corvette owners to suck it up, just like Harley Davidson does. When you have world class machinery like Corvette and Harleys, you can't beat the product for the money, and they know it.

One of the first things I did in searching out a good local GM dealer (actually there are 3 within 20 miles of where I live - had to go 25 to find the best) was to ask where their ASE certifications were posted - then search out the Corvette specific training - motor, drivetrain, body, fuel systems, electronics, etc. - once you know they have factory trained and certified vette techs then you stand a much better chance of getting the proper care for your car!
I acutually was allowed to talk to the two (2) trained vette techs before I agreed to get the car serviced (rear transverse spring replaced). :yesnod:
Been happy with their service (3 times) ever since! :D
I have had good luck so far with my dealership. The guy who works on my car used to have a Vette and is very knowledgeable and also is very particular about his work. Lucky me!
