1989 Convertible ???
My wife just came in and told me about an 89 vert for sale that is supposedly in good shape with 97000 miles. Has both tops and is a 6 speed. What do you think this is worth if it is as good as they say it is? We are gonna go look at it anyway. Let me know what you think.
avg cond = 8000
nice cond = 10000
above avg = 12k
MINT (doubt it is mint) -16+k
89's IMO are THE BEST C4 ever produced both looks, power, and reliability.
I can honestly say this from owning both 89's and a 93 (and being familiar w/ other years as well)
On my 89, I have had to replace alternators like crazy, listen for BOSE radio noise $$$$$$$$, with those miles, check wheel bearings and other wear items.
Keep us posted

Re: 1989 Convertible ??? (*89x2*)
Just got back from looking at it. As I suspected, it was not a convertible. It has been a DARE car at one time, so it was taken from a drug dealer at one time. I was told it had 97000 miles but the odometer said 140000+. The AC worked great. The car was very powerful and fast. The 6 speed seemed to work fine. When cold, the motor died when I was backing out of the guys driveway and had a hard time getting it restarted. Once on the road it drove straight and true. Had the later model wheels on it. Power seats and all the buttons. One head light had a stripped gear on it. The drivers window made a loud pop when I started to roll the window down. The gauges all worked correctly. It needs some work but it is serviceable. I didn`t look under the car.
PASS on it: There are a lot of nice coupes out there. On the other hand I must agree that 89 is the hands down best year of C4 production. So much so that I went a bought one to park along side our 1969. The only thing Kathy, the wife, cannot understand is why they are both white cars with black soft tops.
6500 isn't bad...but we all havent' see it either.there must be plenty of things wrong with it too.brakes, bushings, weather stripping, all the lil' stuff. not to mention U JOINTS! i do mine myself at the shop, but for anyone else labors a BI*CH! look on my friend. :steering:
999 is right - pass on the car. There are plenty of '89s out there, both coupes and convertibles, many of which have been babied since new. For the money that you think you might be saving by buying an 'average' car for what seems a low price, could very quickly prove to be more costly than just spending the money and buying that perfect condition '89 coupe/convertible to begin with.
And I also think that the '89 is the best C4 produced. In fact, whenever anyone asked me "why an '89" after I bought mine, I just tell them "It was the year that they got everything right". But only if it's a 6-speed ;) .
Now if only I can find one of those rare '89 ZR1s.....................anybody got any leads?
I really like the '89's as well. I had a 6-speed coupe and auto convert. The coupe was awesome. Never had any major issues with either. Sold the coupe with 42K and the 'vert with 29K on the clocks. The Vert wasn't as tight as the coupe but it was a decent driver.

I was playing with the 5 vins for the narrow body LT-5’s built back in 1989 on Carfax. One came up a hit. If that counts as a lead, I will give you the vin.
