Default Fire Extinguishers

I've been wanting to get one for a while now and after seeing smoke coming from my alternator the other week, I decided its time to get one.

What kind should I get and from where? I'd like to have it be kind of small.

The local hardware store should have some A, B & C extinguishers in a variety of bottle sizes. There pretty affordable too!
I have an ABC 2 1/2 lb. extinguisher. It's too big to fit comfortably under the front seat. I will mount it to a harness bar when I get one.

What are AB&C's? Do they use different methods like CO2, powder, etc?

Might look at a the Halatron Extinguishers . Some one here posted a link a while back. The good thing about Halatron compared to ABC extinguishers is there is no clean up. ABC uses a powder that gets everywhere. Halatron is a new version of halon. The thing you have to be carefull of is that halon and halatron displace O2 so dont use in enclosed space. Another problem with halotron is that if you have a under hood fire and you are out side on a windy day the fire could flare back up due to the agent being blown away to quicky. We use these extinguishers on all our rotor and fixed wing aircraft

Odin, I got a nice ABC Stainless steel one from a vendor on EBay for something around $35 if I remember right. Its compact and fits perfectly behind my legs bolted to the formed plastic of the seat. Has a guage and everything.

My wife picked up a killer halotron extiguisher for our car that comes with a nice powder coated bracket that mounts to the front of the passenger seat.
Looks very cool. It was like $125 or so. She ordered it from the manufacturer which she found on line. I've also seen them in the Corvette catalogs...Ecklers etc.

I would not opt for anything else.

I bought one at the local auto store for like $15, and it even came with velcro mounting harness. Better safe than sorry!

Well I'm just gonna pick up something temporarily and will get something more custom later on. Keep'em coming though! I'd like to have something that matches my style really well.
