I wouldnt let her get over 250F, oil or coolant. Mine used to get 235-240 regularly and it drove me nuts.

Switchin over to Mobil 1 oil lets you not worry about oil temp, but to get the coolant temps down below 200 you need a fan switch and a lower temperature thermostat, a higher flowing water pump could also lower them.

If you make the change to a 160 deg. thermostat, do you have to make any changes to the radiator core? How easy is this mod to do yourself?

I remember you said GM built the Corvette to run hot in order to burn off more emissions to pass govt. standards, so if you lower the temp with a new stat will you then fail emissions? If the engine was made to run hot is it good to change it to run cooler?? I know there are a lot of people who have made this modification so it can't be to difficult or obtrusive

Mine runs around 220-230 on a hot day.

you need a fan switch and a lower temperature thermostat, a higher flowing water pump could also lower them.
This will drop it about 30 degrees. I had this setup on my old '86 and it was great - no more stressing about overheating :) Rarely did it exceed 200 degrees on a hot day. I plan on having the same setup done to the GS.

If you just add the 160 degree stat, you will see the same temps, it'll just take longer to get there. You don't have to do anything to the radiator (except clean the exterior). If you worry about the temps change to a 160 stat, drain and flush the radiator, clean the rats nest on the front of the radiator and see where you are. You can add a manual fan switch to turn the fan on when you want or have a chip programed to turn them on. Do a search on radiator or coolant or fans and you'll find much more info.

188 on a 95 degree day. I reprogrammed my fans for 2 degrees over cruise temp. Gauge NEVER EVER gets above 190 in static red light traffic..... :yesnod:
