I love it when cars sound intimidating, and i wish mine did. I've tried a few things to get it to sound louder. (40 series Flowmaster exhaust, cut off the precats, and installed Hooker Super Competition Headers.) My car doesn't sound mean unless i'm giving the engine quite a bit of gas. I've heard that what i need to do is get a cam and it'll sound vicious even when it's just ideling. I don't know much about cams, so i need help finding the right one. Where should i buy the cam? Do i need to buy anything besides the cam? (like rubber bands or glue or something to hold it on?) And the most important thing is that it can't affect my computer! My computer is extremely temperamental. It's a 1986 Vette w/ a L82 engine. Any ideas? Need more information? Thanx
If you just want it to sound mean get a lumpy cam but if you also want it to BE mean select an appropriate cam. Also do some head porting and workup to push more air and bring up the sound level too.
Since you have LT headers sounds like you realy need a 3" front Y, a hi-flow cat and a set of muffler elims (maybe the Flows will be enough with a good mandrel-bent rear Y).
Also, it could be a matter of perspective; have someone (that you trust) drive your car away from you and accelerate past you. Only then will you realy know how it "sounds".
BTW, do you have Al or iron heads (and I think you meant L98 engine??)?
If you put in a cam that makes the car" sound" mean (with out doing other mods) you will loose hp, you won't be able to get out of your own way you'll hate it. if you hear a car that sounds mean and it runs right. it is mean! Don't change the cam alone to try to get a better sound! :nono: Bump up the CR. port & polish, chamber work, intake work, valve work now were sounding mean and can prove it!
