Default Drilled Rotors

I'm at work, so forgive me if this has come up a million times(I'm at work, and can't search right now). But, I'm interested in getting some 12" (direct factory swap) drilled rotors for my '95, and I was told there was a site/vendor that had them very reasonably. My rotors look like hell now that I have the ZR1 rims on, and this is a nice way to dress the area up!! Thanks!!

Jeff

Sorry, I don't know the URL to the site. But since you have ZR1 rims, why not upgrade to 13" rotors and the GS calipers? It's not that expensive if you shop around for the adapter plates ! !

As for drilled rotors, they look great, but don't stop well. If the car is for show,

Just my 2 cents worth........

Drilled roters may be more trouble than they are worth! Many crack if used hard and the "extra cooling" may not be of a benefit to you. There are lots of sources.

I agree with Ed, up grade to 13" brakes, either GS or C5. You'll like the way you stop and the way you look :D

Last November I went with drilled rotors from Stillen out in Ca.....they are priced in the middle of Baer and the "el cheapo's"....no problems so far and they work fine for me at the drag strip every month... :D

Drag strip use is fine with drilled rotors along with some slow-speed autocross. Hard braking at track events is what will crack drilled rotors.

That's good to know, I didn't know that. I knew that they had problems with cracking, but I thought it was an eventuality for all drilled rotors.

Cracks? I've heard that I have the sloted and dimpled rotors from tirerack.com. They're loud.

Ok, so the general opinion seems to be that drilled/slotted rotors for my '95, in 12" are not a good idea, and I should be looking for 13" /upgraded fronts?? If I go 13's, that means I have to swap out my calipers too, right?? So far, all kit's I've seen are up around $900!??!?! I only put about 3k/year on my cars, so I was hoping that wouldn't be too bad if I only wanted to go with the 12" replacements??

Don't get scared by everyone's comment about crossdrilled/slotted rotors.
They are NOT THAT BAD.. They may be bad if you are at a roadcourse racing every weekend, but you don't sound like you are.
They actually stop better than normal POS rotors for everyday driving IMO.
ALso you can always get slotted, but not drilled rotors if you are worried about the rotor strength..

If you shop around, the GS brake upgrade shouldn't cost more than $400, total..

Well, if I'm reading that, it's $269 complete?!?! That's for the 13" fronts, 12" rears?? I didn't know they split them up... Ok, well, would I have to change any other equipment to go 13" up front??

I thought 13" fronts were standard on 95 and 96 and 12" rear.

Clean and paint the calipers then if the rotors are in good shape, then just paint the hubs with some hi-temp paint. Don't bother masking, first time you touch the brakes they'll be cleaned off.

Really?? The two places I've called so far have asked me if my '95 has heavy duty brakes, or not, and when I said not, they gave me the details on 12" rotors, so I'm assuming mine are 12's...

I think in 95-96 all corvettes came with the J55 code check under your console, if so I say go with the Baer Eradispeed rotors. I love them. no problems at all. Meaning 13 in front,12's rear.

Good Luck. :reddevil

I also think '95s should have J55's stock.

Another alternative: C5 calipers and Stillen Sport Rotors:

:steering: [/QUOTE] This myth has been cirulated around on this forum until every time this subject comes up I read someone posting this.
First off the holes are not their for cooling that is done by the fins within the rotor. Under hard braking the brake pads give off a gas this gas is between the pad and rotor and makes for poor braking but with cross drilled rotors the gas can escape so braking is IMPROVED not made WORSE
In this thread some are talking about cracking while suggesting to shop for cheap rotors. Buy a quality rotor and you will be happy with it. I bought gas slotted cross drilled rotors from Jeff Kopp at a good price and they are made by GM for racing and are guaranteed. You can buy these in both 12 or 13 inch be sure to tell jeff that you are a forum member and you will get a discount. Most who have been on this forum can tell you about Jeff he is
Da-Man. Yes these will cost you more than those cheapies sold in some of those GS upgrades but they are about twice as thick. I have not had a problem in the two years that I have been using them but if I do GM is behind them that makes them a rotor to consider in my book.

If you own a 95 Vette ...you already have 13" up front. :yesnod: All 95-96 C4 came with 13". :D
Most comments about Drill rotors are from people who never owned them....I've owned 2 cars that had drilled rotors.....No problems. My Vette I own now has had a set on it for 4+ years.....No Cracks...Yes, it's seen Autocross,Drag,etc...
