i no this might be a easy ? but i have no idea about this kinda stuff. i have a 84 and i want to get a mod chip, but what does it do, would it give me more power or what, i have been lookin all around and i have really not found good info and im turning to you guys for help. if you could tell me what a chip could do for a 84 thanks alot for all the help
I bought a chip from Mid America....over 2 years ago......really controls the fan.....replaced the fan switch etc......
You know I'm trying to figure out what else this chip did for me......as I had to replace the switches....on right side of head...so fan would come on sooner.....Gosh....trying to figure out what else it did for me??????
??????? Oh yea...installed a 160' thermostat.....
Please let me know also...

You do not need a chip until you have done other mods first. When you make major changes to intake or exhaust, such as head porting, cam changes, or headers, the stock chip can't deal with the airflow. THAT is when you need a chip. It will make all your new components work together and also gain back the driveability you will have lost. On a relatively stock car the benefits are minimal at best. Lower fan turn on temps, different spark curve, and depending on brand of chip, delayed torque converter lock-up. As far as bang for the buck, you will be very disappointed if you install an aftermarket chip at this point.
