Is this a normal sound pattern after vette being driven?
I just had the main fan motor, temp sensor relay and fusible link replaced after running hot past 230 degrees, as the fan motor had recently shorted out (no wonder I sensed a faint smell of melting wires from under the hood  )
Now the cooling system works as intended, right about 228F the main fan now kicks on and temp reduces to about 210F at idle, after the car has been run around awhile.
But I noticed that there's a very mild sort of "clacking sound" (probably not the greatest description) at this point, when the temp is up a full range. This occurs only as the engine is idling on its own. When I step on the throttle (sitting in the driveway), the sound disappears completely, then returns when back at idle.
This seems heat-related, ie, once the temp rises to where the main fan starts kicking in. Is this a normal sound? I don't really have this sound in my other vette. It should be noted I currently have quiet mufflers, so all engine sounds are easily heard. Am I insane? (don't answer that :D)

These questions may provide no solution to your noise concern, but we will ask anyway: What is the vehicle mileage? What is your oil pressure at idle? What weight oil are you using?

Here are some things it could be.
1) Your fuel injectors, they are very noisy.
2) Your fans may be caught up on something insid. Clean out your radiator and radiator shroud. The C4's are "bottom feeders" they suck stuff up from the ground. And the radiator should be cleaned every 2 years or so.

Thanks guys, the radiator has just been blown clean, and the fans appear fine, as I mentioned the main fan motor was just replaced.
I'm getting the impression it could be an extra loud fuel injector - sort of a light to medium volume level "clank...clank...clank....", etc. Is replacement of 8 injectors required, when do I know they must be replaced? They were inspected approx. 2,000 miles ago and were fine at that time.
