any one no a good radar detector?
i want to get a radar detector but i dont no if they are worth it. my dad is has been a cop for over 30 years and he still is one and he tells me that officers turn there radar guns on and off as people drive by. so i was thinking are radar detectors worth it. can they detect all kinda of lasers. but if i get pulled over and they see the radar detector im screwed. so all and all are they worth it, do they work good. thanks for the help

I've heard differingopinions between teh Valentine1 and teh Escort Passport 8500, but neither will work onthat instant on RADAR unless they hit the guy in front of you.
Our caravan from Bowling Green got caught with that. Those who had RADAR detectors, only got a short blip and that was it. The trooper flicked it on, got the reading and flicked it off.
Nobody hardly paid any attention to it untill they saw the lights in the mirror.

Well, according to almost everyone here, it's the Valentine1, and I trust them on that.

I would say V1 and the 8500. But if your daddy was a cop, can't you use that as your ace in the hole?

Your chances are better than you think. If it's a lonely highway, chances are the cop is hiding out and half asleep with his gun on. If you're in traffic, he's more likely to use instant on.. and flip it on and off with regularity everytime he sees a speeder, or a car with hot chicks in it. Your detector will pick up all of this, and you'll know there's radar in the area.
In some cases, you'll pick up radar bouncing off signs and trees and stuff. I was cresting a hill at 75 in a 45, and the detector went off about 200 feet before I hit the top, so I had plenty of time to slow down. Sure enough, smokey was waiting on the other side, but I cruised by at 45!

Also, in my experience, cops don't like seeing a detector. It's legal here, but I'm guessing it pisses them off because they think you're trying to undermine their authority. "Well officer, no shiznit, that's the whole point!"

Get the V-1. Detects front, rear & sides. Also, as technology improves, you can send the V-1 in for upgrades, while the rest of the detectors get thrown out. I've had my V-1 for 2 years and am totally satisfied with its performance!

You can upgrade or update the 8500 as well.

I knew that. I just didn't want to go thru the rest of the commercial about the other advantages over competition, like number of radar sources, signal strength, sensitivity, etc. At the end of the day, it's a matter of opinion. I guess that's why they make chocolate & vanilla.

I just wish they made that trick little detector mount for the Valentine like they do for the Escort 8500. You know, the stalk that extends down from the rearview mirror screw hole? Allows you to hard wire the detector too so there's no wire hanging all over the place.
I'm not sure how the Valentine is set up. Any chance a mount like that could be made to accomodate the Valentine design?
