Just finished installing a big tranny cooler last night. Everything went smooth as glass.
I don't have a tranny temp gage to know how much it helped, what do you guys think is the "typical" temperature difference you can expect with a cooler?
The one I got is a Hayden 679 - says it's good up to 10,000 Lbs of towing.
now your tranny will never warm up to operating temperature !!!!
You think? I have it ran in series, so it is still going through the radiator, which is going to bring the temp up and also I was told that with the 2800 stall converter the tranny can get hotter than normal in stop and go traffic because of the higher stall, it never allows it to fully lock until you get over 45 mph or around 2500 rpm's. Stock was around 1500 rpms.
I wouldn't worry about it chris. Take the car for a long enough ride to bring the car up to temp, and check the fluid on the dipstick. Is it cold/warm/hot? Then if you really want to satisfy your worry, reach under the car and touch the pan, warm/cold/hot?
I have a question as I want to install an auto tranny cooler too. I do not want to cut any tranny lines. Is there room to hook up the lines as they come out of the radiator? (want it to run in series with radiator cooler)Can I use a high temp. rubber line from the radiator to the cooler?
Thinking of using the B&M 9"x13 1/2"x3 1/2" cooler in the Summit catalog, comes with thermal switch to activate its cooling fan. Way to go???
Ask any Tranny expert how many Tranny rebuilds they did because of a Tranny running too cold. Then ask how many rebuild they did because of a hot running Tranny.
