I've been looking on ebay for one and saw a bunch of differant types. Whats the best performace meter out there, that plugs into a cig lighter. (cant afford a dyno in my garage)

Re: G-tech (Tim89)
Gtech pro should cost ~70 or so. It just measures a few things, like 0-60, 1/4 mile, and I'm not sure what else.
The Gtech competition is much more though. Measures G's in all directions, has a shift light, and can be ouputted to a computer to show anything you wan't to see. Assuming level ground, the entire motion of the car can be logged using accelerometers. I think it also stores runs, and allows you to store info for several cars. But they cost ~$250 last I checked.
Hopefully someone will chime in that has some experience with them. :lurk:

Re: G-tech (65Z01)
To use the G-Tech between cars, you'd just have to recalibrate it, and set the car's weight, no big deal. I think I'll buy one off ebay and try it out.
I could always sell it right back and probably make my money back.
However with the newer updates it also has a "tree" for lauching, it can now store mutiple 1/4 mile runs, includes lateral roll warning in curves. Yes its worth it, and very very close to track results.
The G-Tech should be transferable from car to car.
Yes the GTech Pro can be transfered from car to car.
You could use 1/4 mile trap speed as a dyno (it's proportional to CHP) for tuning purposes.
It has it's own setting for HP ratings, which is the only time you have to input the weight of the car. The down side, or atleast mine, it won't store the weight, so you have to input the weight each time you want to check for HP.
If you are just checking for 0 - 60 or 1/4 mile times you don't input weight.
The GTech Pro can also measure stopping distance and G force.
I'm actually about to attempt designing one of these suckers. Why? Cuz they're cool and I want the satisfaction of building my own. (I'm a EE major) I already have an accelerometer; now I just need to design a circuit! At first I figured I could do it cheaper than they cost, but I really think it won't be so cheap after I account for labor and design time, and non-bulk parts. It would be more cost effective to just buy one; they look pretty neat!!! Let us know how accurate it is!
