I read Joeveto's(?) question about where to position jacks to lift the car. I have the same question. Are the points for the spare tire jack the only place to lift it? I've owned a lot of cars (and I do mean a lot), but this is the first Vette. On previous cars I've owned, I've been able to lift the entire front or rear of the car to place two jackstands at once. Is this not really possible with this car?
Yes you can raise the vehicle to place two jack stands. What I do is drive the car up on some 2 x 6's to get extra clearance, then slide the floor jack underneath and jack by the K frame, then I place teh jack stands where the sway bar mounts are on the frame, for the rear I use a "Jack-A-Vette" which raises the car by the differential and I place the jack stands at the rear of the car(see pics). You could also position the jack stands just inside where it says "jack here" on the frame.
I've been doing one side at a time ever since I bought mine. What's the big deal?? I need to buy a lift, but figure the odds of that happening anytime soon. :skep:
I have found that the very best way to get under my '94 is with car ramps. $30 a pair at Peb Boys. light, easy to store and I am always sure that I won't flex the body enough to crack the plastic top on my coupe. jacking and towing a Vette is a real challange. Read the owners manual about towing. you must use a tow truck that can haul it up on a flat bed. I just love my ramps. Hope this helps.

Re: Jacking Points (markjill)
I either jack at the front crossbeam or in back between the spare tire cover hinges (with a long 2x4 on the jack).
I put the jackstands not at the marked places, but further in. I put the front ones just where the foldd frame curves inwards from the rocker panels, and in back, I put them in the folded frame just ahead of the rear fenders. You can't support it from the factory points with most jackstands without damaging your paint. :nonod:
interesting question.
i pulled my new (to me) vette into the shop at work where i have a 4 point twin beam hoist and pondered for half a cup of coffee before i finally got the courage to lift it.
i wound up placing each pad at the "jack here" locations, the front being a little further ahead because they wouldnt fit all the way in place.
theres a steel rib on the inside of the panel that bears the weight and she came up fine without even pushing up and the painted surface at all.
the pads on that hoist are flat with 1/4 in traction ribs.
i was thinking serious about buying one of them nifty lifts you drive onto and then use a floor jack on the rear of the ramps.very nice option if u ahve the extra thousand bucks.
but since im in the shop planning stage atm im considering a floor pit.
illegal in some states but not alaska :)
for a cheap quick alternative just use 2 cheap floor jacks with a plate tacked onto the top of each, and jack one side at a time up evenly at the "jack here" points would be my suggestion.
twisting cross corners is what you want to avoid doing.
keep the top on and doors shut at all times too.
