Hope Venting here is Ok.
I live in a nice suburban area of Long Island NY.
About 1 &1/2 months ago a new Fire Hydrant was placed in front of my house in conjunction with a new water main. The original location was across the street. This was done with no warning, hearings etc. Where there was place for 3 cars in front of my house, there is now space for 1. There are 4 of us each with a car plus my Corvette. All of our cars were always parked in front of the house or in our 2 car driveway. This is no longer possible.
I have gotten petitions signed by everyone on the street and sent it and letters to everyone to no avail. The only accurate answer as to why it was moved was "unofficially" from the local Water Commissioner, he said the "engineer from the town felt it was easier than placing it where it was for the past 65 years". The people whose house it was in front of have said they would rather it remained in the original location.
Now the dig. We are forced to park 2 cars in front of neighbors houses. We try to vary but the problems have started. I was asked to move my car " a few feet so his ill nephew could park".
I'm just angry, now after Iv'e been screaming by myself the inevitable has started, it now affects others and now they are angry at me. I know the police calls to make sure cars are parked the correct distance from curbs, inspections and registrations are in order will start. Phoney "cars parked for weeks" calls etc, etc.
I'm just venting.
Any Comments or suggestions? Hope I'm not boring you guys.

And my friends I grew up with in NY (Malverne, LI) ask me - "Why would you wanna leave NY?"
Just anothe example as to why I think is a great place to visit, and then leave.
Seriously though, didn't the removal of the hydrant from across the street create the same number of available parking spaces that were lost on your side? You should have 'Grandfather rights" to the new spaces!
