Default Engine Cleaning

I recently read a post about using a specific wheel cleaner for the engine compartment. What was it? And what not I NOT use it on?

Thanks

I don't know which post your referring too, but maybe it was a touchless tire foam. Clean your engine moderately with degreaser and water ( if it needs it) and spray the tire foam on and leave it, close the hood and come back the next day and WHOILA!! I have used it and does work, much to my surprise. Just spray everything evenly and it does all the work. And for what not to use, it was probably Armor All or something like that. Good luck,

It was my response to an engine cleaning question. I use Eagle 1 machined/unpolished mag cleaner for any and all aluminum parts under the hood. It also works great on your aluminum suspension parts ie: A Arms, etc.
It has Hydrochloric Acid in it, as well as other cleaning agents. Be careful when you use it, as to not let it sit too long after you spray it on, because it will "burn" your aluminum. It will immediately start foaming when you apply it. Let it work for about 15-30 seconds, and high pressure rinse it off. You will be pleased with the results. You don't have to specificly buy Eagle 1. I use it, and it is a well known brand. Any mag cleaner that is considered an "aluminum brightener" will work.
Also...if your wheels are polished, but not coated, and are looking rather dull, use it on them, but spray it off almost immediately after application. Go back and repolish, and your wheels will look like chrome. Aluminum brightener is very widely used in the trucking industry, mainly because there is so much of it on the big rigs.
Good Luck,
Larry

Thanks Klimper! I won't be using it on my wheels, as they are chromies, but my engine needs some SERIOUS cleaning. Thanks a bunch - off to the store I go!

I use some elbow grease and Simple Green if necessary. That's basically it. No water EVER is sprayed on my engine!!! That's a big NO NO with the Optispark!

Kirk, I never thought to ask you if you had the Optispark system. I assumed that you had an L98, which is virtually indestructable. Everybody has their own opinion, but I wash my L98 on a regular basis with no problems.

For Xtra dirtyness I use a purple degreaser (Castrol or Purple Power) on the block and suspension....it does wonders and is biodegradeable. :jester DON'T use on painted surfaces!
