I have a 1990 vette. The little photo sensor that controls the daylight dash brightness is going bad i think. Has anyone ever replaced this? Can i just buy the sensor somewhere. I would hate to replace the whole DIC. Everything else on the unit works fine.
I replaced mine because the plastic dome was missing. It is an easy fix. I dont know where you would get one. Mine came from Contemporary Corvette. That should do the fix.

Re: C4 Photosensor (gregfloyd)
I believe that's a discontined part. Corvette boneyard would be your best bet. What makes you think it's going bad? Best way to check is to test it at night, in the dark. Turn the key on to illuminate dash. Leave your headlights off. Shine a flashlight at the photocell, and the dash should get brighter.
Where is this Photosensor located, and do I have one on my 92 ? There is a "sunload sensor" on top of the dash, in the defroster vent, but I'm pretty sure that's part of the electronic AC system.
If you cover it up, the dash will get dimmer, unless you turn on the lights. I know it doesn't make sense, but the dash will think it's night, and basicly dim out all the way until you turn on the lights. I think the instrument cluster is supposed to be super dim at night without lights on so when you're sitting in your Vette, and spying on your girlfriend's house, the dash won't illuminate the entire passenger compartment so she can see you.
Makes sense to me!

Right above the gauge buttons on the right side of the dash--the 3/16" hole with clear plastic.
The sunload sensor is one of three sensors in the C68 Electronic AC. It measures the amount of heat generated from the sun shining into the vehicle. There are two other sensors, one for outside temperature and one for interior temp. All three of these sensors feed info to the AC system.
