My 87 Coupe was repainted the same color before I bought it (Dark Red Metallic). The clearcoat is peeling in several places and, frankly, it looks terrible. I wash the car weekly and wax it once every 3 months. Where the clearcoat is not peeling, it shines like crazy. Anyway of stopping the peeling?
My feeling is if the clearcoat is peeling.....well time for a new Paint job....
Don't you think......ben there done that....
Sorry for this info....but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone did a bad repaint....

I had my hood repainted last year due to many road chips. I have a small spot on the rear deck where the clear coat is peeling. The paint shop said they could wet sand the clear coat and reapply a couple of coats without repainting. . :seeya :hurray:

just have to get an estimate.waiting will just cost more bucks.
sounds like you may get by with just hand sanding and re-clearcoating at this point.
you should be able to hit any part of the car with 1500 or 1200 sandpaper and see no color coming off (wet sand).if you see pigmentation in the residue from the wet sanding, your clearcoats gone.
only thing i can think of to stop the peeling would be to feather in the edges with 600,then 1200,then 1500 sandpaper and repolish the car with a buffer.
most refinish kits have full instructions.
i like the 3m glazing polish at work but those arent basecoat/clearcoat vehicles.not sure whats best on our vettes (yet).
good luck :flag
