I am planning to install TPIS long tube headers and cats on my 96 CE LT4. I thought I would also install new plugs (Bosch Platinum +4s) and wires while I had the exhaut manifolds off and could access the drivers side of the motor. My plugs and wires are stock and have only 28000+ miles. Am I changing too soon? Am I wasting money? I would replace wires with stock to maintain the red look. (I like it alot) Is there a better "red" wire to consider?
I changed out the AC Delco Platinum plugs on mine and what a boost. Replaced them with AC copper plugs and cured a high rev misfire.
The Bosch Platinum junk DID NOT work in my Honda worth a dayum. I replaced them with NGK copper plugs and got a much better running engine.
The platinum plugs are supposed to last much longer for EPS purposes. They do keep firing at moderate rpms and throttle, but will miss at high revs after they get some miles on them. Forget the advertising, don't use platinum plugs if you run an engiine hard.
Your wires should be just fine at 28000 miles. Just be careful to twist them off the plugs, do not pull them off directly or you can mess up the ends.
I'm planning to install the TPIS headers and Random Tech cats on mine. I will be interested to know what problems you have with the install. It looks like I have to do my own wrenching for the headers then flatbed the car to an exhaust shop for the rest of the job.
I concur with 94TorchRed. However, since wire replacement is not much fun , the cost of new wires is worth it and you would be good to 100,000 miles. The copper NGK plugs are much better performers, I noticed immediate acccleration response. I get about 30,000 miles out of them. I have 125,000 miles on my 94 and do autocrossing.
